History of Our Growth

Route 109, a major thoroughfare that passes through Millis, connects the town in both east and west directions to state highway routes 128 and 495 for easy commuting. In addition, railroad transit is available via the Norfolk Train Station in the neighboring town of Norfolk as well as other rail stops in towns close by including Needham, Walpole, and Franklin.

Millis’ great history dates back to 1657 when it was first settled. Originally, the land that makes up Millis was part of Dedham but was eventually granted to Medfield. With the help of Lansing Millis, the Town of Millis was officially incorporated in 1885. Lansing’s efforts were responsible for the town’s growth economically as well as bringing the railroad to the area leading it to become the vibrant community it is today.
